Treatment & Programs
For over a decade, Texas Star Recovery has provided dual diagnosis treatment to adults who suffer from co-occurring substance abuse and psychiatric disorders. Our continuum of dual diagnosis care is designed to meet the needs of individuals at different stages of recovery. Our small program of 28 beds allows for individually focused care.
The treatment team of physicians, therapists, case managers and the clinical director meet every morning to discuss the patient’s progress and needs. A thorough assessment to determine the appropriate level of care is conducted prior to admission. Patients can step down to less intensive care as their condition deescalates.
Treatment programs are offered at multiple levels of care to accommodate the severity of each patient’s condition.
Levels of Care
- Inpatient treatment is intensive 24-hour care that may include medical detoxification, rehabilitation and residential treatment.
- Outpatient programs allow patients to receive treatment while they continue to live and work in the community
- Alumni support is a weekly aftercare program that offers structure and guidance from peers and staff.
Family involvement is essential for a successful road to recovery from substance abuse and psychiatric disorders. Addiction is considered a “family disease” and we offer education groups to family members of patients. Therapists can provide family therapy sessions in person or by phone while your loved one is in treatment.
Topics Addressed in Family Therapy
- Brain disease model of addiction
- Setting boundaries and communication skills
- Codependency and enabling
- Relapse prevention behaviors and support
Our addiction specialists in psychiatry and medicine recognize cross addiction and will detox patients from all addictive or potentially addictive substances. We provide safe and non-addictive medication to treat mental health, chronic pain and other issues. Inpatient medication dosage may be altered to be more effective.
At discharge, we require a follow-up physician appointment is made in the community. Staying on medication to stabilize mental health and post-acute withdrawal syndrome is extremely important. Physician advice offers a better understanding of the risks associated with certain medications.
Addiction is a disease which affects the mind, body and spirit. Prolonged drug and alcohol use greatly diminish self-image and the ability to enjoy life. Our programs provide a variety of therapeutic activities to address the consequences of addiction.
Recreation therapy is provided to teach interpersonal skills, increase self-awareness and show ways to have fun without drugs and alcohol. Yoga, meditation, mindfulness and acu-detox are additional therapeutic modalities used by trained staff to give patients a path towards spiritual growth and healing.
Acu Detox (or ear acupuncture) is a service included in all inpatient and outpatient programs. Performed by a licensed specialist, it involves the placement of five acupuncture needles on specific points on both ears. The needles are fine gauge, disposable, sterilized and stainless steel.
Each of the points in the ear corresponds to a specific point in the body. These include the parasympathetic nervous system, lungs, liver, kidneys and spirit or inner awareness. Once the needles are placed, clients sit in a group session incorporating meditation for 30 to 45 minutes. We recommend that clients participate in acu detox at least three times per week.
Our Treatment Partner Approach
Texas Star Recovery works in collaboration with other well-respected facilities for the common goal of helping people who struggle with chemical dependency. Working as a treatment partner, many facilities utilize Texas Star’s robust medical team for our expertise in treating their clients before admitting to another program.
The physicians at Texas Star are aware of other facilities’ medical protocol and treat the patient accordingly. We maintain an open door of communication with the facilities we provide medical services.
Encourage daily face-to-face interaction between the patient and destination facility. Provide destination facility with pertinent medical/behavioral updates. For patients without insurance, Texas Star provides a cash-pay discount for detox services in which the destination facility can pass on to their clients.
